M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust Website
Reimagining the User Experience

The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust is one of the largest organizations of its kind in the U.S., they have funded over $1B in grants to nonprofits across the Pacific Northwest in their 44-year history. The Trust is also a thought leader in the philanthropic community, providing a wide a variety of development resources to nonprofits.
The Trust’s website is one of the primary channels for that content, but it suffered from an important problem: Users couldn’t effectively find the resources and information they were looking for.
Our
Approach
Improve the user experience
Solidify the Trust’s brand voice
Serve up a wide variety of fresh content
UX Process
It was necessary to map out the ~400 page site before moving forward with changes to its structure and flow, then to model such changes using revised site maps.
Visitors arrive at the Trust’s site with very different goals. We developed usage scenarios for the primary user types to ensure success for everyone.
Finally, simplistic layouts were created in order to test user experience (UX), prune excess content, and ensure that all critical user needs were met.
Fresh and valuable content served up for new and returning users
We performed an audit of the vast collection of pages, documents, articles, videos, then adjusted the design to separate dynamic from evergreen content.

Faster Grants Data
We developed a much-improved Grants Awarded Database that is faster, more detailed, and more useful.
